Welcome to harmony islands

ancient tree.jpg

It all started with the Harvest Tree.

The large elm grew in the middle of an archipelago of islands located a fair distance from the mainland. Full and verdant, evergreen throughout the seasons, and imbued with the ever elusive property known simply as magic; It was clear to the early inhabitants that the tree was different from the others. Season after season, the people were blessed with bountiful harvests, plentiful fishing seasons, mild winters and fair weather. Like an orchestra of elements, everything seemed to exist in harmony.

Harmony Islands referred to the collection of land masses, scattered and unique from one another, but united by a forgiving body of deep blue water. For many years, the people of the islands existed peacefully, and they paid their respects to the Harvest Tree by way of prayer and joyful festivals.

Dichotomous Deities

Eventually, the Harvest God and Goddess revealed themselves and made it known that they ruled dominion over Harmony Islands. Rightfully. people started to attribute the islands overwhelming success with Agneyastra and Tethys as they existed in symbiosis with the land, sea, and air, and the Harvest Tree was a vessel for their power, and that vessel in turn prospered from its surroundings.

Agneyastra was tempestuous, but warm. She guided with a stern hand and strove for further growth and prosperity

Tethys was tranquil and reserved. His guidance was felt in subtleties and bits of proverb. His patience was such that it might be mistaken with procrastination at times.

WIth such a drastic difference in personalities, it would come as no surprise that often times the two deities didn't see eye-to-eye, but they often found a means of resolving quarrels or negotiating a resolution for the sake of the islands and their devoted people.... But paradise never lasts forever.

Day 1 Railroad Edit.png

Rail Road Islands

As life turned to modernization with such lawn mowers and sewing machines, telegraphs, morse code, refrigerators, postal systems and antiseptics, it wasn't long before talks of a rail system began to circulate the islands. The promise of the rail meant faster shipping for selling goods, easier transport of materials, and less than half the travel time for getting between islands compared to taking the train.

Neither deity was particularly fond of the idea, but their people had been faithful for so long and they trusted them to make the right tradition and hold true to some semblance of tradition.

Unfortunately for them, the promise of MORE outweighed the pleasantries of tradition, and construction  of the rails was conducted with vigor, and completed with pride for their steep accomplishment. A circle of steel and beam punctured into the land and water, propelled by coal and coughing steam into the pure air... Agneyastra detested it, Tethys lamented the effects it might have on the environment, and the biggest affront: the rail did not connect people to the harvest tree.

Persuaded by Teto's stifling patience, Agni watched silently as year by year, worship declined and people shifted the subject of their festivals from their god and goddess, to the false idols of modernity. The tree was no longer lovingly and devotedly looked after and one day, it began to shed leaves.

Agneyastra was of the opinion that the people should be punished, and when Tethys wasn't silently weeping and bringing about rainclouds, he was negotiating with the offended goddess on the people's behalf, biding for time until she coudl take it no more.

Their feud manifested for 7 days and nights with mercurial weather, raging seas, and tremors in the earth, until it all came to a head with a split- literally.

People marveled at the symmetrical pieces of Trojan, one now permanently humid and hot, the other an everlasting tundra. And while they pondered over what to call the two halves of the broken land, the God and Goddesses receded into obscurity, leaving the people to play with their trains.

Harmony Islands became little more than a memory in the face of the Rail Road Islands of today- a fascinating yet entirely unpredictable collection of islands that is home to some of the most unique characters around.

The question now is whether those characters can come to realize the full potential of their home and find a way to restore the Harvest Tree and entreat the God and Goddess to return to the land.
